    Description

    Vintage 1895-1896 pre-printed basketball scorecard which is one of the earliest known to exist in the world with a handful being known from 1895 (just one year earlier).  However, this is from Vassar College and was between two ladies teams making this quite an early rarity as it is not only the oldest ever offered for a womans college basketball game, but quite possibly the oldest program for a womans college sports event ever offered for any sport!  It featured the class of 1897 and the class of 1898.  From the scrapbook of a lady who graduated in 1896 and was the scorekeeper in this game, it can not be from later than that.  It has pre-printed positions which meant the game was played with 11 on each side!  Looks like the final score was 5-3 and it even mentions who the referee and scorekeeper were!
