The Altyn R2M project was launched in 1997.
After a number of modernizations, the thickness of the cap of the Altyn helmet reached 4 mm, and a protrusion appeared in the upper part of the visor, which was popularly called the hump, respectively, the helmet - the Humpbacked Altyn. This technical innovation made it possible to place a spring on the visor, which is responsible for fixing it in the firing position higher than usual, thereby solving the issue of better visibility with an open visor.
The radio pads were also reduced, the radio connector was changed from 19 pins to 7 pins and was designed for the Standard radio station (made in Japan).
Instead of two domestic speakers, one imported one was installed in order to better recognize voice commands. The boom of the microphone was also changed, which received a thread and the ability to quickly replace it from a set of spare parts in case of breakdown. They began to install bulletproof glasses made in Russia (at the polymer plant in Dzerzhinsk) into the helmet.
Altyn helmets are one size and set up from 57 to 62 head size.
