Description
The Croatian Votive Cross is a cross created in 1979 on the occasion of the 1100th anniversary of the event, when Pope John IV. established ties with Prince Branimir between the Holy See and the Croatian people. The cross consists of a base with an old Croatian plait, which is located over the entire cross. On this plait is the crucified Jesus Christ. At the top of the cross is the baptistery of Prince Višeslav. Next to Jesus 'right hand is the monument of Prince Branimir, and the Pralik of Our Lady of the Great Testament is next to Jesus' left hand. At the foot of the cross is the sign of Branimir's year (879-1979) with the keys of St. Petra.
The Croatian Votive Cross is a special sign of the jubilee of Branimir's year. The Croatian bishops, led by the Archbishop of Zagreb Franjo Kuharić and the Pope's envoy, Cardinal Franjo Šeper, presented him at a large celebration in Nin on September 2, 1979, with the wish to enter every Croatian Catholic house and to permanently remind of the jubilee renewal program : "Croatian Catholic family prays daily and celebrates Mass on Sundays."
