Garmin InReach SE+ Handheld Satellite Communicator and GPS. Use the Iridium satellite network to send messages to other InReach devices or cellular phones via SMS. Great coverage, fantastic battery life, fielded very little. I purchased two of these devices, one in red and one in yellow. The idea was for use during search and rescue operations to communicate with my family via SMS and also back to command via the device-to-device texting capability of the InReach SE+ units (in the mountains where we operate, radio signals can’t get out and there’s no cellular coverage). I would take one and leave one at command. Anyway. Quite simply, they lost one. It took awhile to find it and almost didn’t. It wound up in a personal gear bag of someone I didn’t know. After that I decided leaving one I personally paid for at a point where other people had control over it and I could lose it was a no go. I decided to keep the red, and sell the yellow (spouse preference. I like the yellow personally. It’s harder to lose in the forest especially in the dark). The device is in great condition, some typical extremely minor rub marks on the rubber part of the housing from being in go-bags and moved from house to car to field. You can see what I mean in pictures. It’s a great unit, I just don’t need two.
