Description
Up for auction a salt cellar produced in the London shop of silversmiths Peter and Ann Bateman back in 1795. I originally purchased it in 1972 from Linden & Co. in the London Silver Vaults. The salt has an elongated bowl just short of 3 3/8" long, just over 2" wide and is 2 1/8" tall. The blue cobalt glass insert is original and is removable. The weight of the silver portion of the salt is 40 grams. The marks on this item can be verified on this Bateman site along with the Bateman family history...http://www.silvercollection.it/BATEMAN.html
