Description
For sale is a truly one-of-a-kind prototype uniform for the Russian GRU special purpose units based on the Mabuta-2 style summer combat uniform first worn by Soviet Spetsnaz in the late 1980s inAfghanistan
. The 3-colour camouflage has not been documented previously, and consists of soft geometric shapes in brown/pink on a khaki base. I speculate that this set was developed in the early 1990s, perhaps still under the Soviet regime, comparing to other period uniforms.
The matching set consists of a tunic and trousers, made from a durable, glass-reinforced cotton fabric. The layout of the uniform is an evolution of the Mabuta-2.
The jacket has two chest pockets, two sleeve pockets and a small pouch on one of the sleeves for a field dressing, with a mix of Velcro and buttoned flaps. The jacket has an elastic cinch belt in the hem which is used to adjust the fit around the waist.
An internal document pouch is provided, made out of a nylon fabric.
The trousers have large, characteristic frontal pockets on the thighs with Velcro squares on the flaps, a pocket on the left seat, an elasticized twin flare pouch on the left rear thigh, and a vertical, knife/baton pouch on the right thigh with two metallic snaps.
The knees are reinforced.
The condition of the uniform is like new and it appears unworn. No damage, missing parts or repairs. Colours are like new. There are no stamps, just a cloth label with a handwritten size, indicating a size of 56 - and length approx. 5, equivalent to a US Medium Long.
