Description
Up for sale is this scarce salt cellar in a dazzling deep blue color called a Jersey Swirl, circa 1890, maker unknown. It has a flat rim and the swirl pattern starts just below that going about half way down the salt w it tapers in & has a design of stars on the lower half. The base has a lovely swirled star pattern covering it, deeply incised from the underside as seen in the photos. The inside of the bowl is completely smooth other than a straw mark that can be felt in the bottom of the bowl. The straw mark and a couple of tiny flea bites on the rim are the only things I can find to mar the absolute perfection of this beautiful old salt cellar. Not bad at all considering it is 130 years old!! It has been cared for very lovingly over the years. It can be found in H & J's salt guide on page 42, salt # 426. It is listed as scarce in the Heacock & Johnson rarity & price guide of 2002-2003. They define "scarce" as a salt that is seldom seen, and that definitely applies to this salt Please look at the pictures for a much better explanation. It stands one inch tall & has a diameter of approx. 1 3/8 inches. It is seldom you see this kind of workmanship in the newer salts. If you have any questions, please ask me. Also, I am happy to combine shipping so if you are buying more than one item
